The Peabody’s Best TV Shows List Is Why They’re More Relevant Than The Emmys

The Emmys hog the attention, but the Peabody Awards, which aim to “recognize distinguished achievement and meritorious public service,” are a much better indicator of the “best” programming that television has to offer (well, the Peabodys, and UPROXX’s best shows list). Previous winners include The Simpsons, Twin Peaks, Justified, and Deadwood, and this year, the coin-shaped trophies were awarded to The Americans, Black Mirror, Fargo, The Honorable Woman, Inside Amy Schumer, Jane the Virgin, The Knick, Last Week Tonight, and Rectify.

If someone were to say those were their nine favorite shows of 2014, I’d congratulate them on not including the perennially Emmy-nominated Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory, and then I’d ask if they want to take a long walk in the park. After binging on The Americans, The Honorable Woman, and Rectify, they could use some sun. And an ice cream sundae.
