Kendrick Perkins Calls Anthony Davis A Hybrid Of Kevin Durant And Kevin Garnett

Kendrick Perkins has been around the block a few times. He was a bruiser for the Boston Celtics’ 2008 Championship team, an enforcer for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the starting center on most people’s All-Time Dark Alley Team.

He’s also typically a man of few words, but he wasn’t shy about heaping praise on new teammate and mentee Anthony Davis during a guest appearance Wednesday on the “Black and Blue Report,” a podcast featured on NewOrleansSaints.com. Here’s what Big Perk had to say when asked to describe Davis:

“To be honest, with his basketball game he got a lot of KG in him. His personality has got a lot of Kevin Durant in him. It’s different.”

That’s high praise coming from a guy who’s played alongside both of those individuals at or near the peak of their respective careers. Perkins’ role with the Pelicans this season likely won’t be much more than professor emeritus of the low block, but he could prove to be an invaluable asset to Davis as he inevitably evolves into one of the league’s most unstoppable forces. If Perkins’ toughness and tenacity rubs off on him, that could happen even sooner than we expect.
