LeBron James Wrote This Touching Letter To A Terminally Ill Teen

All Emanuel Duncan wants to do, according to Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star, is meet LeBron James.

“My bucket list is to meet LeBron,” he tells me. “That’s the one thing I want to do. Meet LeBron James. That’s my role model. He inspires me to do everything. To be a good person, to put other people first, to live your life and do what makes you happy. If I meet LeBron James, that would make my day. I wouldn’t ask for anything.”

As far as wishes go, this is fairly common – after all, who wouldn’t want to meet the best basketball player on the planet? Duncan’s wish has a bit more urgency, though. He has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a terminal disease. While life expectancy can extend into the 30s and even 40s, at 19 years old, Duncan is already at an age where some pass away from the disease. Not that that’s stopped Duncan from living his life, of course. As Doyel writes, Duncan’s planning for what comes next – maybe NASCAR, maybe coaching.

Now, if you’re LeBron James, you probably read or hear about these situations all the time. It’s devastating, to be sure, but you’re not obligated to respond. LeBron did respond, though, in a huge way.

It’s not quite meeting Duncan in person, but given the attention LeBron’s already given to him, it’d be surprising if that didn’t happen when the Cavaliers visit the Pacers in Indiana on February 1.
