Pau Gasol Has Strong Feelings About Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

Pau Gasol, who is normally a font of adorable positivity, has waded into dangerous waters by weighing in on Chicago deep-dish pizza in an interview with GQ. In a rare burst of negativity, he said, “I’m not a fan of this deep-dish pizza. To me, it’s just a cake of melted cheese. I like the thin-crusted pizzas better.”

Pau, what have you done? Don’t you know that pizza is the most divisive issue on the Internet? And to make matters worse, you play in Chicago! That’s like a Pittsburgh Steeler saying that putting french fries on a sandwich is dumb and turns the fries into soggy mush. Sure, hating on deep-dish pizza is a popular pastime among basketball players and late-night hosts alike, but Pau needs to pick his battles. The backlash has already begun:

Calm down, everybody. Pau is allowed to dislike any food item, just as everyone is allowed to pile as much dough, cheese and sauce into an oven as they can. Call it cheese-and-sauce-cake if it makes you happy, we don’t care. As always, the important thing to remember is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion — what’s that? You’ve stopped listening and have started a flame war with a New Yorker over pizza again? Figures.
