Morgan Freeman Joins ‘Ted 2’ As The Stuffed Bear’s Civil Rights Lawyer

I love Morgan Freeman, but some of his more recent life choices have made me . . . concerned. After The Shawshank Redemption and Million Dollar Baby, that man could do literally whatever he wanted, but instead chose to do Dolphin Tale 2, a feel-good story about a disabled dolphin who gets a prosthetic tail. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeman has now signed up for Ted 2, scheduled to be released June of next year.

Sure, Ted 2 is bound to be slightly better than Dolphin Tale (which – in a heroic defeat of logic, scores 82% at Rotten Tomatoes). Ted itself was the highest grossing original R-rated film of all time, earning $549.4 million worldwide. Most importantly, Vince once woke up from a nap and kinda liked it, so that’s all the thumbs up I’ll ever need.

Both MacFarlane and Wahlberg will return for Ted, MacFarlane as writer, director, and lead bear. Amanda Seyfried will also be joining the cast. While the plot remains unclear, Freeman will be playing a civil rights lawyer, since apparently bears have civil rights and Freeman wants to . . . defend them?

Based on A Million Ways to Die in the West, which featured some high-profile actors in some low-slung roles, I’m not sure whether Freeman’s casting can do anything to save us from MacFarlane’s inconsistent scripts. MacFarlane’s too clever for me to disrespect, but too cruel for me to Facebook friend. I can’t totally hate him, and that’s annoying.
