When Marvel announced the creation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it was a big deal because it would be the first time an ongoing television series would be part of an ongoing film series. As such, the two entities would “talk” to each other through visual cues and various plot-threads, as seen following the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Because of the series’ success, everyone is now looking for ways to give ongoing film franchises connected television programs as well, and one of those entities is Star Wars.
It’s been known for a while that Lucasfilm is looking for ways to make a live-action Star Wars show a reality, but until now, it hasn’t been feasible. However, with the property now under the control of Disney, the project is a priority according to a new rumor.

We’ve heard for a while that Disney has been actively trying to get a Star Wars live-action series off the ground, and the fact that this news is popping up again means something changed or was figured out. This sent me digging for more and I’ve come up with some information on the development of the series that you may find interesting.
I’ll warn you now, it’s nothing Earth-shattering (like plot info or start date), but it does show us about where they are in the process, why we’re hearing about it now, and the liklihood that we won’t see it anytime in the near future. I’ve heard from a couple sources now that until the film schedules have all been ironed out (we’ve got at least two movies getting that sorted now), the show is in a holding pattern.
The report goes on to say that the plan would be to shoot the show between movies, thus allowing it to re-use sets. But this can’t be done until the schedules of those movies are known. In addition, Disney wants there to be hype for the show — like there was for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — and that can’t happen until there are a string of new Star Wars films out in the open.
A Star Wars show will happen. It’s good business for a new Star Wars show to happen. In fact, the importance of continuity is so real that Rebels was designed to be a part of the new movie universe. However, this also means Disney wants to get things right with a small screen version of the George Lucas created world and that, above all else, takes time.
