Five Games: ‘Mortal Kombat X’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play — the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day, but thankfully, I’m here ever week to guide you through what’s happening with games.

As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s PC Port

Grand Theft Auto V (PC, April 14)

I usually wouldn’t include a PC port of an already released game on the list, but the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V is kind of a big deal. Fancy 4K graphics, a new video editor, and most importantly, support for mods. This is the version of GTAV that’s really going to open the game up.

This Week’s Western Adventure Game

Westerado: Double Barreled (PC & Mac, April 16)

Westerado is a new retro-styled western shooter, but despite appearances, it’s not entirely about the arcade action. The game also has adventure elements, and it presents you with a lot of decisions, letting you craft your own Old West tale of revenge. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Space Fleet Sim

Gratuitous Space Battles 2 (PC, April 16)

Gratuitous Space Battles 2 is one of several recently released space fleet strategy games competing for your attention. This one in particular focuses heavily on the management and customization side of things, with very little direct action. If real-time strategy is a little too stressful for you, Gratuitous Space Battles may be the space fleet management series for you. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Space Strategy Game

Titan Souls (PC, PS4 & PS Vita, April 14)

Titan Souls is a stylish, 2D Zelda-like adventure with the die and retry ethos of a Dark Souls game. Titan Souls also features a very simple, arrow-shooting combat system, making the game easy to get into, but hard to master. If you’ve got the fortitude, this one looks like it could be a tasty little mini-obsession.

Pick of the Week

Mortal Kombat X (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, April 14)

The latest, craziest entry in the Mortal Kombat series is finally here. Mortal Kombat X features all the classic Kombatants you could want, and they all come with several different forms. Of course, we’re also getting the most ridiculous, repulsive Fatalities yet. It looks like they’ve really gone all out with this one, so get ready for some big, dumb, bloody ’90s fun!

A big week for immature “Mature” gaming. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
