Five Games: ‘Back To Bed’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Action RPG

Sacred 3 (PC, Xbox 360 & PS3, Aug. 5th)

The Sacred series of hack ‘n’ slash action RPGs returns this week with Sacred 3. This one should serve up more demon slicing goodness for up to four players both on and offline.

This Week’s Roguelike

Road Not Taken (PC & PS4, Aug. 5th)

Road Not Taken is a new Roguelike RPG featuring a super adorable art style. The focus of the game is more on puzzle solving than battling — the little ranger you play as isn’t so good at direct conflict, so avoiding enemies is the name of the game. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Adventure Game

Mind: Path to Thalamus (PC, Aug. 5th)

Mind: Path to Thalamus throws you into a gorgeous surreal world, in which you have the power to alter the weather, seasons and humidity. You have to use those powers to solve puzzles as well as the large puzzle of whose mind you’re exploring anyways. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Previously Unreleased Classic

The Mysterious Murasame Castle (3DS, Aug. 7th)

Think you’re well-versed in all of Nintendo’s classic NES-era games? Well, you’ve probably never played this one. Built on The Legend of Zelda’s engine, The Mysterious Murasame Castle puts you in the shoes of a samurai who must defeat an alien presence that’s taken over his castle. Why it took Nintendo nearly 30-years to release Murasame Castle in North America, I don’t know, but it’s here now, so give it a try Nintendo completionists.

Pick of the Week

Back to Bed (PC, Mac & Linux, Aug. 6th)

Get ready to have your mind thoroughly twisted by Back to Bed. Bob is a sleepwalker who wanders through dreamy landscapes that are part real world and part M.C. Escher nightmares. As his loyal dog you have to guide him through these mind-bending puzzles and return him to his bed. This one looks like it has tons of personality. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
