Margot Robbie, hot off her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street, just signed to star in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi Z For Zachariah. The script was part of 2009’s Black List and was adapted from a Robert C. O’Brien novel by Nissar Modi. In the original version, a 16-year-old farm girl survives a nuclear war and believes she’s the sole survivor until a mysterious stranger arrives. I hope it’s Godzilla.
Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor have also signed to star in Z For Zachariah, which will be directed by Craig Zobel and produced by a company co-owned by Tobey Maguire.
The teenaged lead character was originally going to be played by Amanda Seyfried until the filming schedule changed and the studio decided the character should be a little older. Enter Margot Robbie, who proved with her role as Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife in The Wolf of Wall Street that she is most definitely an adult. Even if she had to lie to her parents about the, um, adultness.
We’d just like to point out the absurdity of replacing 28-year-old Amanda Seyfried with 23-year-old Margot Robbie while using the excuse of, “Well, we want the character to be older.” The word you’re looking for is naked, not older. You want the character to be naked.
