For over three decades, the bellow of a triumphant orchestra has indicated it is time to shut up and sit down because “Star Wars” is about to begin. The iconic Fox fanfare was composed by Alfred Newman way back in 1933. For “A New Hope,” composer John Williams created his own addendum to stretch the opening score out to encompass the Lucasfilm title card. Ever since, that music been the jumping off point for generations of Star Wars fans the world over.
But now, a new era has begun. With Lucasfilm shedding their partnership with 20th Century Fox and joining the Disney fold, the drums have to be left behind. The digital release of the complete “Star Wars” saga is the first time Disney has gotten to test drive their new score.
My opinion? Needs more percussion but otherwise, it sounds fine. You can never go home again, but it's not a deal breaker.
