$4,000 shoes?! Prices for Alien Stompers run up in aftermarket

In honor of the Alien movie franchise and “Alien Day” (4/26 as in LV-426. Yeah, it”s a bit of a stretch.), the apparel company Reebok has produced a limited number of the Alien Stompers shoes. But here”s the rub – they sold out in just hours, so if you haven”t already bought them, they”re gonna cost you about as much as a space ship.

The futuristic-looking boot first made their debut on Ellen Ripley”s (Sigourney Weaver) feet in the 1986 film Aliens, the sequel to the 1979 sci-fi classic. When Twentieth Century Fox announced the planned release of the shoes last month, they said in a statement that the Stompers were “one of the most-requested licensed products.”

As collectors do, they scooped the shoes up immediately and the aftermarket for them on eBay is already through the roof. At the time of publication, prices ran upwards of $4,000 a pair.  This is quite a mark-up considering Reebok was only selling them for $175.

In an interesting marketing decision, the shoes were only made in men”s sizes. Not sure Ripley would be too happy to hear that.
