‘Batman v. Superman’ Director: We considered Christian Bale for a different role

If he could have had his way, director Zack Snyder might have cast two Batmans in the upcoming Batman v. Superman: The Dawn of Justice.  Well sort of.

In an interview with Film Ink magazine, Snyder said that he wanted to find a role for three-time caped crusader, Christian Bale, in his new movie.  Of course with Oscar winner Ben Affleck signed on for Bruce Wayne/Batman, this would have meant a new part for Bale.

“I just wanted to hire Christian to play another part,” Snyder said.  “Christian could play, like, Alfred with age makeup. No! Of course not. But you know what I mean.”

While casting the now 43-year-old Affleck may have surprised many, considering Bale was in his early 30s when he first donned the mask, this was definitely by design.

“I really wanted an old Batman…I wanted a world weary Batman… someone who has had experiences, and Ben has really hit that,” Snyder said.

The movie, which also features Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Jesse Eisenberg, debuts March 25, 2016.
