‘Dark Knight Rises’ secrets revealed in new behind-the-scenes video

Can you create a 13 minute behind-the-scenes promo for a movie without giving too much of the movie away?  That appears to be the case with a new featurette for “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The new video, embedded at the top of this article, includes all the major stars of Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film discussing their characters and hinting at the end of the trilogy.  Christian Bale and Nolan remark on where Bruce Wayne’s mindset is at the beginning of “Rises” which begins eight years after the events of “The Dark Knight.”  Gary Oldman reflects on how Commissioner Gordon is responsible for the relative “peace” in the city.  Michael Caine and producer Emma Thomas dissect that Alfred has always been the emotional center of the films.  Marion Cotillard discusses how Nolan, who she previously worked with on “Inception,” has a skill of creating intimate moments in big action films (among other things).  And Anne Hathway also marvels at Nolan’s ability to create a cinematic universe.

You’ll also get a look at some of the massive sets constructed for the film as well as b-roll of the stuntmen on the outside of the suspended plane that was shown in the IMAX preview for “Rises” during the holidays.  Often, these featurettes can provide little of interest besides the campaign’s overall marketing message, but this one is well worth spending the time to watch.

“The Dark Knight Rises” opens nationwide and in IMAX on July 20.
