Emmy Nominations 2015 Best and Worst: ‘Empire’ diss, Amy Schumer joy and more

As HitFix's own Alan Sepinwall wrote this morning, “the only way to look at each year's Emmy nominations is to treat them like the theme song from “The Facts of Life.” You take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both, and there you have this year's Emmy nominees list.”  Sadly, and perhaps more than any other awards event, there is always a good deal of bad.  But, before we walk down that road how about some obvious celebrations?

After getting snubbed for her incredible work in “Orphan Black” over the past two years, Tatiana Maslany finally earned her first nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.  Other great performances didn't go unnoticed as Emilia Clarke and Lena Heady both landed deserved nods in the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category for “Game of Thrones.”  “Mad Men” went out in style with a massive 11 nominations (matched deservedly by “Transparent”) and ABC's “American Crime” had something of a comeback with 10 nods.  Throw in the fact “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” and “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” each earned seven nominations and there was a lot to cheer for.

Sure, Eva Green was overlooked for “Penny Dreadful,” but we knew that was coming (sigh).  As for what happened to “The Americans”?  Well, the fact the show was trending on Twitter this morning and it never trends on twitter tells you FX's critical darling might have gotten seriously shafted.

Taking all that into account, check out our best and worst of the 2015 Emmy nominations in the embedded gallery below.
