Excellent: Alex Winter spills ‘Bill and Ted 3’ plot details

It's been more than 20 years since Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves last teamed up as Bill and Ted, but Winter has some non-heinous news for fans of the stalled franchise.

While both he and Reeves have been talking up plans for a threequel for some time, Winter has shared the first significant plot details in a new extensive interview.

“[Bill & Ted] will be 40-something and it”s all about Bill and Ted grown up, or not grown up,” he told Yahoo! News. “It”s really sweet and really f*cking funny.”

Despite rumors that the series would be rebooted, Winter wants fans to know that the original characters will be the focus. “It”s a Bill & Ted movie, that”s what it is. It”s for the fans of Bill & Ted. It fits very neatly in the [series]. It”s not going to feel like a reboot.”

Like the 1991 sequel “Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey,” the third installment will allegedly give Winter and Reeves the chance to play multiple roles. “There”s many versions of ourselves in this movie,” Winter explained. “[It”s] answering the question: ‘What happened to these guys?” They”re supposed to have done all this stuff, they weren”t the brightest bulbs on the tree, what happened 20 years later? To answer that question in a comedic way felt rich with possibility.”

It may take a while for the film to hit theaters, but Winters assured fans that it's moving forward behind the scenes, with original writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson. “The script”s been finished for a while, but comedy is so specific,” Winter revealed. “We”re in that world where producers are on, financiers are on and we”re just working and reworking the script.”

Excellent.
