‘Free Fire’ is Brie Larson in a 90 minute warehouse shootout – pretty awesome

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective.

It's 1978. Two groups meet in a warehouse for a highly illegal exchange of weapons for cash. It goes south and the gangs shoot at each other for 90 minutes of pulse pounding action and pithy dialogue. What's not to like?

Whether the movie is good or not – and it looks good – this is one artfully designed trailer. It's the cinema of cool, with great costume choices (I love Brie Larson's look in this movie), peppery line readings, and uptempo 70s music. Also, don't forget the sounds of cartridges being loaded into chambers. Or something like that. I don't know how guns work, but who cares when you have well choreographed fictional gun play. It's escapist fun if it's done with the right balance of tension and flair for the ridiculous.

English director Ben Wheatley's been making interesting movies, like Kill List and A Field in England, with his screenwriter wife Amy Jump for a few years now, and has developed quite a following. Not to mention, he's directed a couple episodes of Doctor Who.

I'm definitely going to check this out. How about you?
