Disney Animation just put a woman in the director’s chair for the second time ever

Disney”s Jack and the Beanstalk retelling has a new director: Meg LeFauve – already very much part of the Disney family with screenwriting credits on Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, and Captain Marvel – will co-helm Gigantic alongside Nathan Greno (Tangled). The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

It marks the second time a Walt Disney Animation Studios theatrical feature has been directed by a woman. Jennifer Lee was the first when she was promoted from screenwriter to co-direct Frozen alongside Chris Buck. LeFauve, similarly, comes to the director”s chair with a writer”s background, rather than the more common path of an animator or storyboard artist to director.

Gigantic takes place in Spain during the Age of Exploration and has Jack meeting Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and he agrees to help her find her way home. The film is set for a November 21, 2018 release.
