Gugu Mbatha-Raw joins Ava DuVernay’s Disney adaptation of ‘A Wrinkle in Time’

Disney and Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time has picked up another fantastic actor. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is officially on board for the Madeleine L”Engle adaptation.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote Mbatha-Raw, who had her breakout performance with Belle, is going to play Meg Murry's mother. Like she has with the last few castings, DuVernay confirmed the hire and role on Twitter.

Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling were previously announced as playing Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who respectively. Young Storm Reid took the lead role of Meg Murry. The other child actors, and Meg's father, have yet to be announced though Disney and DuVernay were very clear on wanting a mixed-race family and overall diverse cast.

Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee has written the script and Mbatha-Raw will soon be seen as Plumette in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast. While A Wrinkle in Time has been adapted before I'm incredibly excited to see what Disney and DuVernay come up with for this science fantasy classic.
