The Path, Hulu's drama about a fictional cult called Meyerism, won't be deprogrammed just yet — it's getting a second season, announced before its first concludes.
The show stars Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan, and Hugh Dancy — a pretty stellar cast to be sure, but the result, according to HitFix's own Alan Sepinwall, was “dry” and “claustrophobic.” Unlike Netflix, Hulu doesn't drop entire seasons all at once, so The Path is seven episodes in to its 10-episode debut season. The finale will be released on May 25.
Hulu also announced a fifth season for The Mindy Project, which it picked up last year after Fox cancelled the Mindy Kaling series. Its fourth season finale will be released on July 5. Picking up The Mindy Project was an expensive gamble for Hulu — it ordered 26 episodes (compare that to Netflix and Amazon series, whose seasons are half as long) without knowing if they would attract enough subscribers to pay for them. Apparently, they have.
