Julianne Moore to play ‘The English Teacher’ opposite Greg Kinnear

Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear are heading back to school together in the upcoming comedy “The English Teacher.”

A high school English teacher (Moore) reunites with a former star student whose aspirations as a playwright have come to a dead end. She convinces him to stage his un-produced play at her school, which ends up complicating her previously simple life. Sounds like a more serious “Hamlet 2,” with maybe a pinch of teaching dramas like “Music of the Heart.”

The film, with a screenplay by Dan and Stacy Chariton, will be the feature debut of veteran TV director Craig Zisk (“The Big C,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Weeds”).

The Artina Films project starts shooting next month in New York. Naomi Despres, Robert Salerno and Matthew Chausse are producing, along with Ben LeClair.

Always busy, Moore recently stole the show in “The Kids Are All Right,” and earned further accolades for her supporting turn in  Tom Ford’s “A Single Man.” She can currently be seen in the ensemble piece “Crazy Stupid love,” alongside Steve Carell, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

Kinnear’s “I Don’t Know How She Does It,” co-starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Opens September 16.
