SAN DIEGO – As if one role in a Marvel movie wasn't enough, Paul Bettany has now greedily taken on another: artificially-intelligent Ultron spawn the Vision in Joss Whedon's “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” So how did he get so lucky?
“Since 'Iron Man,' the first 'Iron Man,' I've been involved [in the franchise],” said Bettany of his voice role as Tony Stark's personal computer assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. in all three “Iron Man” films and the first “Avengers.” “I thought it wasn't gonna happen because once you play one character in a Marvel franchise you can't play another. But we all got along so well, somehow Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige figured it out. And I'm really flattered that they did.”
In the sequel the Vision has what Bettany terms a “complex” relationship with the Avengers – not unexpected considering that he's a creation of the main baddie played by James Spader.
