SAN DIEGO – 26-year-old Robert Pattinson is feeling old.
“It’s strange that suddenly [at] 26, that you suddenly feel like, ‘Oh, I’m actually not a kid anymore,'” said the “Twilight” thesp as he chatted it up on the Comic-Con press line for “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” “So you’re really playing like not a kid, I mean I felt sort of older than everyone, even though I’m not older than anyone. But it’s strange, especially when Mackenzie [Foy, who plays Edward and Bella’s daughter Renesmee] is…like her full, her own height and everything, and I’m going, ‘I’ve got an 11-year-old child? Wow! I’m in this category of actors now, I’m playing like 40-year-olds!'”
Given the setting, it was only appropriate that the question of Pattinson’s most memorable Comic-Con experience would come up, particularly seeing as he’s attended the festival every single year since 2008. And yet despite all the years that have passed in-between, his debut appearance still stands out above the rest.
“I think the first Comic-Con was pretty unique…I was doing this same carpet before I went in, [and the reporters] were like, ‘Do you know what you’re gonna expect? Are you nervous?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know, what are you talking about? I don’t even know where I’m going!’ I had barely done a red carpet before! And then suddenly coming in and people…they put the word ‘Twilight’ on the screen [in the panel] and 6,000 people start screaming at the word, and that’s before the movie even came out…before the trailer came out. …That was completely nuts.”
As Pattinson’s co-star Kristen Stewart pointed out in our previous chat with her, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” boasts some definite sylistic differences from the first segment, stemming mainly from the fact of Bella’s transformation from human girl to undead bloodsucker.
“I think as soon as Kristen becomes a vampire, it changes the whole tone of it,” said Pattinson. “I mean, there’s no…everyone’s aliens at that point…because it’s always rooted around Bella. And so you kind of have this human aspect…her family’s hardly in it, the friends are hardly in it anymore, it’s literally just vampires and new vampires who come. Which…I don’t know, I think it gives it a different tone. I think it makes it more sci-fi-y…it’s strange.”
