Roberto Orci says he’s ‘not officially involved’ in ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’

There was a moment before the release of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” when Sony was talking about release dates for not just a third entry in that series, but spinning off other characters into their own films.  This included making a “Venom” movie as well as a “Sinister Six” one.  Now however, those plans seem much more tentative.

At the end of last week, IGN posted some interesting quotes from Roberto Orci on the subject.  Of Sony and “Spider-Man,” Orci said, “I don't know what their plans are for that franchise.”  He also stated, that he was, “not officially involved in” the third “Amazing Spider-Man” movie.

What makes that interesting is that as of last December, Orci was along with Alex Kurtzman, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, Drew Goddard, and Marc Webb were declared to be part of the “brain trust” working on the “Spider-Man” universe.  Where that stands now though is unclear.

Orci also stated in the same IGN piece, “There's a love for the Sinister Six, the idea of Venom — there's an idea of Spider-Man's going to be one of these characters that's part of our business. He's such a popular character. Spider-Man's not going to go away any time soon. When it all happens and how and all that has yet to be determined.”

So, nothing is going away, but when and how it's all actually going to arrive on the big screen seems to be up in the air at this time.   We do know that right now Orci is busy working on the script for “Star Trek 3.”

We will, of course, bring you updates if and when they come in.
