‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ gas station to become ‘Horror BBQ Resort’

If you”re a horror movie lover with a taste for the gruesome, there”s soon to be a restaurant in Texas just for you. The famed Last Chance Gas Station from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where Leatherface did his damage, is about to become a barbecue joint.

According to its Facebook page, construction on We Slaughter Barbecue is in full swing, with its grand opening slated for this July. The facility will not only have a restaurant, but it will also feature an outdoor stage and even lodging for people brave enough to spend the night there.

The idea is the brainchild of businessman Roy Rose. In a 2015 interview with KXAN, Rose explained that he was such a fan of the 1974 slasher classic, that he bought the horror landmark, moving his family from Cleveland to Bastrop, Texas, about 50 miles southeast of Austin.

Rose said that his vision was to create a “horror barbecue resort,” likely the first time that phrase has ever been uttered.

As if the prospect of dining at a place where human chili was once on the menu wasn't scary enough, one of the other investors in We Slaughter Barbecue is Ari Lehman, who played Jason Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was shot for a paltry $300,000, but went on to make $30 million. It also spawned six sequels with a seventh, simply titled Leatherface, slated for a 2016 release.
