Watch: Captain America and Thor battle foes in new ‘Avengers’ clip

Between all the official photos, trailers, teasers and clips, we’ve seen quite a bit of footage of Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers,” but it never hurts to take a closer look at two of Marvel’s biggest heroes bashing baddies, which is exactly what we get in this brief new clip featuring Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in action.

As the two team members who are the least familiar with everyday modern life (Cap’s from the 1940s, Thor’s from Asgard), the duo appear to have built a bond around their shared talent of ass-kicking. In this case, those receiving the beatdown at the heroes’ hands (and shield and hammer) are the non-Skrull aliens who have foolishly invaded NYC and apparently teamed up with Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

Cap takes a major blow to the gut, but Thor’s there to pick him up. There’s no “i” in “team,” folks.

The rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes — Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and S.H.I.E.L.D. bigwig Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) — sit this one out…for now.

“The Avengers” opens May 4.
