Wednesday Ratings: ‘MasterChef,’ dipping ‘Briefcase’ pace split

“MasterChef” delivered Wednesday's biggest audience among young viewers as FOX won the key demo, while repeats of “Criminal Minds” and “CSI: Cyber” helped CBS triumph overall. 

Also winning its hour overall for CBS was “The Briefcase,” but the much reviled summer reality series slipped again in total viewers (but remained flat in the key demo).

Wednesday night was low on notables, so let's get straight to the numbers…

Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 1.3 rating for Wednesday primetime, beating ABC's 1.1 rating in the key demographic. CBS was third with a 0.9 key demo rating, followed by NBC's 0.8 key demo rating, while The CW averaged a 0.3 key demo rating for the night.

Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 5.26 million viewers and a 3.4 rating/6 share for Wednesday night. ABC was second with 4.05 million viewers and a 2.7/5, ahead of the 2.3/4 and 3.93 million viewers for FOX for the night. NBC was fourth with 3.11 million viewers and a 2.0/4, far ahead of the 874,000 viewers and 0.6/1 for The CW's night.

8 p.m. – CBS led the 8 p.m. hour with 4.74 million viewers for “The Briefcase,” which finished third with a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49. ABC's repeats of “The Middle” and “The Goldbergs” averaged 4.7 million viewers and a 1.1 key demo rating, compared to the 4.63 million viewers and hour-winning 1.5 key demo rating for FOX's “MasterChef.” NBC's encore of “I Can Do That” averaged 2.51 million viewers and a 0.6 key demo rating, followed by the 969,000 viewers and 0.3 key demo rating for The CW's “Arrow” repeat.

9 p.m. – A “Criminal Minds” repeat averaged 5.63 million viewers to lead the 9 p.m. hour for CBS, also finishing tied for second with a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49. ABC was second overall and won the hour in the key demo with repeats of “Modern Family” and “Black-ish” averaging 4.11 million viewers and a 1.1 key demo rating. FOX's “Bullseye” averaged 3.24 million viewers and a 1.0 key demo rating, holding off the 3.06 million viewers and 0.8 key demo rating for NBC's “American Ninja Warrior” encore. The CW's “Supernatural” repeat averaged 779,000 viewers and a 0.3 key demo rating.

10 p.m. – CBS' “CSI: Cyber” averaged 5.41 million viewers to win the 10 p.m. hour overall, finishing third with a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's “American Ninja Warrior” repeat averaged 3.75 million viewers to top the 3.34 million viewers for ABC's “Celebrity Wife Swap,” while both networks averaged a 1.1 key demo rating.
