Paul McCartney To Replace Kurt Cobain In Nirvana Reunion

By / 12.12.12

Tonight’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden will feature performances from the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Kanye West, among others. Oh, and a Nirvana reunion with a former Beatle filling in for Kurt Cobain. Maybe those Mayans were onto something.

Paul McCartney will fill the role of Kurt Cobain when he plays with the surviving members of Nirvana at the 12.12.12 concert for victims of Superstorm Sandy on Wednesday night.

The former Beatle will join Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic on stage in New York to play a new song after secretly working with the pair. Grohl and Novoselic have not performed with each other for 20 years…McCartney suggested they “just make something up” and found himself playing with Grohl on drums, bassist Novoselic, and guitarist Pat Smear, who toured with Nirvana for the last six months of the band’s career. The possibilities are endless: “About a You’re Going to Lose That Girl.” “Any Time at All Apologies.” “Come Together as You Are.” “Rape Mean Mr. Mustard.” But even if the foursome just fart out “Swap Meet,” with a 10-minute ukulele interlude, it’s still fun (if blasphemous) being able to type, “Please welcome Nirvana…with Paul McCartney.” Just don’t tell Courtney Love — she’s busy filling in for the still-alive Darius Rucker at the Hootie and the Blowfish reunion concert in a bowling alley down the street from the Garden.
