With the New Hampshire primary just two days away, Hillary Clinton was in Flint, Mich. on Sunday to speak to residents and victims of their catastrophic water crisis at a town hall meeting. She condemned congressional inaction during speech.
As the Los Angeles Times reports, Clinton has been talking about the crisis for weeks, and has tried to rally national attention around it. In her speech, she called the crisis “immoral,” and that “the children of Flint are just as precious as the children of any part of America.”
Clinton also criticized inaction on a bill that Michigan senators and representatives have sponsored to give $200 million to fix Flint’s water infrastructure. “Congress needs to pass that bill immediately,” Clinton announced to applause at the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church. “This is no time for politics as usual. Flint should be able to start making the repairs you need as soon as possible.”
When asked, Clinton denied her stop in Flint was due to the candidate giving up on New Hampshire, where her opponent Bernie Sanders continues to lead. “Occasionally you go off the campaign trail… I know Sen. Sanders went to New York to be on ‘SNL,’ and I’m going to Flint to see if we can help with the kids,” she said.
If I may add in my two cents, that is some hardly subtle shade, Ms. Clinton. Statements like that are why I love political campaigns, and not because of the constant yelling that Trump and co. favor.
