Ask Alan: How Well Does ‘ER’ Hold Up Today?

Time for another installment of Ask Alan, as I take your questions about the past, present, and future of TV.

First up this week, a question prompted by my article about ER coming to Hulu — and 10 episodes that newcomers might want to watch if they can’t commit to all 331, just to see why the show used to be such a big deal — as well as my many tweets as I’ve been unable to stop watching those episodes this week: How well does the ’90s most popular drama (and TV’s most popular medical show ever) hold up 20-plus years later? (Spoiler: I may be writing the text of this post while watching the season six finale.)

The ER discussion leads us into our next topic: what role, if any, does desire to get people to watch vintage streaming episodes play into revival versions of shows like Fuller House or X-Files?

And we close things out with a question inspired by the black-ish spin-off grown-ish, which airs on Freeform while its parent show is on ABC: How often do spin-offs run on a different network?

As always, you can email me questions at askalan@uproxx.com, or tweet at me with the hashtag #AskAlanDay.
