‘Seinfeld’ reunion in Super Bowl ad: Not that there’s anything wrong with that?

Last week, the TV world was abuzz with the idea of a “Seinfeld” reunion, as Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander were photographed, Alexander clearly costumed as George Costanza, entering Tom’s Restaurant, the New York diner that inspired Monk’s on the NBC sitcom. Then Seinfeld did an appearance on WFAN radio’s morning show in New York, where he teased that it was a reunion, featuring multiple actors from the show, that it wasn’t for his Crackle.com series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” and that it would be seen very soon.

As it turned out, two of those three things were true, as viewers found out during halftime of Super Bowl 48. It was, indeed, Jerry and George together again, bickering about George’s behavior at a friend’s Super Bowl party two years before – George was accused of “the over-cheer,” which sounds a half-step removed from double-dipping – before Wayne Knight showed up as Newman to spar with Jerry once more. But it was also a promo for a “Comedians in Cars” installment with more of the three actors getting back in character, which you can see here. (The Super Bowl promo is embedded at the top.)

We already got a faux-“Seinfeld” reunion a few years back on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and that one also had Kramer and Elaine. But were you happy enough to have half the gang back on screen again? And was the quality of the game so lousy that you just jumped to Crackle to watch the rest of the episode?
