Lou Holtz’s Mansion Was Destroyed By Possible Lightning Strike

Former college head coach and ESPN analyst Lou Holtz’s Orlando mansion was destroyed over the weekend. According to the Orlando Sentinel, police believe lightning is the cause. Holtz and his wife were in bed when the smoke alarms went off after 2 a.m., and they lost most of their worldly possessions in the blaze.

Luckily, the College Football Hall of Famer and his wife were unharmed, and true to form, Holtz used a football analogy to convey his trademark optimism regarding the situation:

“In athletics you are going to have ups and downs. Whenever we had a down, we did two things,” Holtz said. “We gave ourselves ‘X’ amount of time to feel bad for ourselves, and then we moved forward. With the fire, by Monday morning it was no more feeling bad for ourselves. We were looking forward.”

The 11,000-square-foot home was gutted in the blaze, and Holtz called it a total loss.
