The Washington Capitals Held A Stirring Tribute To The Victims Of The Paris Terror Attacks

The Washington Capitals took on the Calgary Flames on Friday night in D.C. It was an exciting game – the Capitals scored two goals in the third period to force overtime, but ultimately lost as the Flames scored early in the extra period to win. Sadly, like everything that happened on Friday night, it was done after the horrible terrorist attack that occurred in Paris earlier in the day.

The Capitals decided to take a moment to honor those who were impacted by the attack before the puck dropped. While “The Star-Spangled Banner” played over the loudspeakers, the team held a simple but powerful tribute by projecting the French flag onto the ice at the Verizon Center. It was reminiscent of some of the other tributes from around the world, as places like New York City’s One World Trade Center, Toronto’s CN Tower, and the Sydney Opera House were lit up in blue, white, and red.

Plenty of other people in the world of sports took some time to pay homage to those who were effected by the attack, whether it was with a moment of silence or mentioning that their thoughts and prayers were with everyone in Paris. While things like this are never a competition, the Capitals’ full-ice tribute during the national anthem was the best of the bunch.
