1982 – “Up Every Night” Video

In my humble opinion, you shouldn't want to make it in the music business for the money and fame, but rather the opportunity to share those glorious dividends with the people you love.

No one eats up the tale of the underdog like Hip-Hop does, and 1982's "Make It Out Alive" is sure to strike that chord with 99% of the listeners out there.

Between collaborations with Freddie Gibbs and Action Bronson and putting out his own album, Statik Selektah had a fairly busy 2011.

Yeah, Statik's beats may nostalgic enough to put you in a teenaged mindframe when your love for Hip-Hop trumped your high school sweetheart and Termanology's dizzying lyrics may force you to put the iPod wheel into early retirement, but they still have heat for the airwaves too. "The Radio!" A plush but forceful jam that should have any and every Hip-Hop purist dialing in their local station to request it to counterbalance the...well...crap. Ben Affleck may have directed The Town but these boys live, eat, sh!t, breathe it through their display of musicianship that led to one of the best albums in recent memory.

1982 (Statik Selektah & Termanology) – “Start It Like This”

The 1982 vehicle is turning on the throttle in 2011 as the deadly combo of Statik Selektah and Termanology is cranking out hits quicker than Mark Wahlberg in a Beantown boxer flick. Following up their critically acclaimed debut of the same name, the Massachusetts brethren are dropping the scratch-heavy single, "Start It Like This," to promote their new project, The Evening News EP. The two synthesize interloped samples over Term's lyrics ("you know I'm up in the mix/pull a Suge move, drink a bucket of piss/I stole that line from Joey Crack because I thought that flow is fat/what happened to rap? I'm confused, someone bring it back."), longing for rap's renaissance that the duo seems poised to start. The Evening News is available now on iTunes.

Video: 1982 (Statik Selektah & Termanology) “Goin’ Back” & “The Radio” Live

Anyone outside of the blogosphere more than likely had Termanology and Statik Selektah's Hip-Hop nostalgia trip, 1982, fly right over their heads in 2010. That's fine because I'm sure both could give a damn if those fair-weather fans took notice or not. The album was one of the genre's purest forms, a mind-melding 16 tracks of listening pleasure. To celebrate the LP's release, the Beantowners take the stage at Middle East in their native northeastern abode for a live performance of "Goin' Back" and "The Radio." The fervent energy of the crowd shows attests to the fact that the masses still like their beats scratched, their live shows jumping and their cups filled with one of the three key facets of the Holy Trinity. For those who still don't know, get to know--cop the album in its entirety on iTunes.

I try not to get too excited about any musical events or traveling period. All of the pre-planning and coordinating involved usually does well enough at distracted me from the anticipation anyways. However, I fell head over heels in love with A3C rather quickly.
