100-Word Review: Stat Quo’s ‘ATLA: All This Life Allows, Vol. 1′

At a lean 12 tracks, Stat Quo's second indie album, ATLA: All This Life Allows, Vol. 1, leaves little room for filler and nearly every track hits its mark.

Eminem Feat. Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Stat Quo & Ca$his – “Syllables”

For those of you who didn’t get exactly what you wanted for Christmas, it’s not too late. The Scrooge McDuck turned Santa of Hip-Hop, Dr. Dre, has opened the vault and let loose another more highly coveted record for your listening pleasure. The unearthed song, "Syllables," sounds a bit dated, hosting appearances from now ex-Aftermath soldier Stat Quo in addition to a quick verse from long-forgotten Ca$his, who's surprisingly still signed to Interscope for purposes unknown. But the heavyweight headliners - 50, Hov, Dre, and Em - are the obvious main attractions. Marshall’s style is very obviously circa 2004, as he’s not using that double time flow or doing his pseudo irate Mike Singletary impersonation. But all joking aside, he does make some valid points regarding the age-old "what’s more important, the beat or the lyrics" debate. Eminem Feat. Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Stat Quo & Ca$his – "Syllables" Swiped: HHC via Splash.

“The Beginning” – Review Of Stat Quo’s Statlanta

By | 13 Comments

Time and time again you see the surplus of a rap dynasty's signing spree just kaput to shit when the general interest of the movement wanes. After waiting in the wing ghostwriting and prepping for his turn in the spotlight on Dr. Dre's Aftermath roster, Atlanta lyricist Stat Quo saw his opportunity fizzle before his first single even made its rounds. Wayward but undeterred by the setback, Stat hammered out numerous mixtapes before finally linking up with Sha Money XL (of 50 Cent fame) as they breathe new life into his prolonged debut, Statlanta. Stat Quo is unique in his merits as he possesses the skills a lot of Southerners are guilty of lacking: a versatile flow packed with wit and intellective content. Over mild piano riffs and moody instrumentation, Stat sounds right at home depicting the struggle with Talib Kweli on "Alright." Switching gears to a somewhat more upbeat tempo, the spoils of "Success (Back to U)" highlight that willpower Stat displayed while riding the pine all those years on Aftermath.

If anyone deserves the right to rap over a reinvented Dre track, it's Stat since he's spent time as an Aftermath detainee and is still contributing to the urban legend that is Detox.
