Saigon's Greatest Story.
- Geek & Sci-Fi
Saigon already picked his poison.
The verdict has already been sealed, but the tracks keep pouring out regardless.
It's an universally common scenario: Cereal is on the menu by default yet the key component to making the meal a reality just so happens to be slightly past its expiration date.
Perhaps if Saigon The Don would have stuck with Turtle and not had Drama "Vanilla-Iced" on the hotel balcony, The Greatest Story Never Told wouldn't have been delayed so hard. But it's all cognac under the bridge at this point. Jerry Ferrara - Turtle to many - goes out of his way to endorse The Yardfather's celebrated debut as a fan and gets a lifetime supply of CD's in the process. Saigiddy's album is available now on iTunes or Amazon.
Jay and Nas left the past in the past. Shaq and Kobe eventually won co-ownership of the NBA All-Star. The saying "bros before..." You know what, nevermind, I'll stop before we're accused of being misogynistic and supporters of child endangerment. Saigon and Joe Budden once had a nasty war of the words a few years back stemming from reasons I cannot truly recall at this moment.
In 2011, this is as close to a "Roll Call" as you're going to get. Annnd, in 2011, this could be considered the first noteworthy Hip-Hop full-length record to get the ball rolling; set the standard for where the beats, rhymes and life should be propelled to elevate the music standard in the commercial district. (You hear that Dre?). You've seen a little bit, and heard a few more but holy taco Batman, this is the full enchilada we're dealing with. Kanye West, Jay-Z, Marsha Ambrosius and some guy named Just Blaze (?) all help Saigon finally get his Greatest Story told and sold on 2.15.11. Three years ago, some of you current skeptics' heads would have exploded like that White supremacist on that Dave Chappelle skit. But since we're all here, how does it sound? If we're taking prop bets, how many Cigs will TSS Crew dole out for it.
By now, you HAVE to have realized that the secret is out. The renegades Saigiddy and Justin Blaze are bringing you through the ghetto without riding around on that 'ol fashioned reality rap tip. The Greatest Story Never Told is now an album, song and video to fully encompass the mission on hand. Which is to feed the people chicken noodle Hip-Hop for a soul's progression. How hungry are you? If you're in need of bowl, pre-order the LP.
Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for the man and woman of the hour for the ceremony of The Greatest Story Never Told. Overseeing the proceedings this evening will be The Yardfather a.k.a. Saigon as he preaches to the congregation about hope and change with the pearl-voiced leading lady Faith Evans.
Good music will forever transcend a revolution, no matter how much money or commercial airplay is behind a record. Don't take my world for it; just think how many rappers wanted to ride the wave of precedence set by street classics like "Exhibit C" and "Black & Yellow." The producer of the former mix CD staple is ready to go at again with his more than patient protégé Saigon.
Think back to the early fall of 2009. A semi-forgotten yet resolute rapper by the name of Raekwon was poised to get his solo career back to where he wanted to be by releasing a heatrock underneath our unsuspecting asses in the form of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2. Although he released his 2nd [official] album the same day as Jay-Z's neo-genesis The Blueprint 3; losing an inevitable sales battle; Raekwon won over audiences by giving them something new that was actually quite old. His vaulted album still pulled its weight with a quality that couldn't be tainted, even if the songs were recorded several years earlier. Can lightning strike in same spot for Saigon.
After he dropped that weird "Eep, Opp, Ork, Ah Ah" shirtless freestyle, the doubt on Sai's sanity began gaining momentum.
Let me say from the jump that this song is a classic.
