The Cast Of FX's 'Fargo' TV Series Is Shaping Up Nicely

Early in 2012, we got the first whiff of FX’s plan to remake the Coen Brothers’ brilliant Fargo into a television series, and at the time, I decided to dreamcast some possibilities. I like my cast better (I mean, Carla Gugino and Donald Logue in the same show is going to stand far above any actual cast list), but FX is putting together a solid ensemble, all the same.

Fellow Arkansas Billy Bob Thornton has taken the lead role in Fargo, which is actually the equivalent of the Steve Buscemi role in the movie: Arootless, manipulative man who meets a small-town insurance salesman. That small-time insurance salesman will be played by none other that Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The UK The Office, a little movie called The Hobbit). Just today, they’ve announced that Colin Hanks will play one of the law enforcement officers.

Admittedly, Hanks is the weak link, although his season of Dexter notwithstanding, Hanks has displayed some acting ability, or rather, he was really fun in Orange County. There’s also still time for FX to hire Carla Gugino as the female detective, and Kevin Rankin has nothing going on since Breaking Bad ended.

If you are worried about the adaptation hewing too closely to the movie, fear not. The 10-part series will “follow an all-new ‘true crime’ story with a new case and characters all seeped in the humor, murder and “Minnesota nice.” If everyone doesn’t bite it in the end, maybe we’ll even get a second season.
