Emilia Clarke ‘Can’t Stand’ The Sex Scenes On ‘Game Of Thrones’

One of the biggest changes on Daenerys’ evolution from trade piece to steely badass on a dragon is how she uses her sexuality. Where once she needed to be taught how to please her master, now she’s the one in control, demanding that Daario strip for her. This is partially because Daenerys is more confident and powerful than she used to be, but it might also have to do with Emilia Clarke reportedly refusing to appear in the nude anymore.

In fact, she’s not a fan of sex scenes, on Game of Thrones or otherwise.

Sex scenes should be more subtle. I’m British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway. I can’t stand it… I don’t want to have sex thrown in my face and I’ve always thought the suggestion is so much more titillating than the act itself… Most sex scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they’re usually just to attract an audience.

On screen, the subtler the better. (Via)

She’s not wrong. The most obvious example of this is the infamous scene in season one when Littlefinger dumps a load of exposition on viewers who aren’t paying attention, because they’re watching Ros and Armeca pleasure each other. But Game of Thrones, which used to traffic in boobs and butts (and an occasional penis) the way the Pyromancers do wildfire, has gotten better at only using sex to advance the plot or say something about the characters. Why, the season five supercut of nudity and sex scenes is only seven minutes long, and that doesn’t include Sam losing his virginity to Gilly. And Emilia Clarke wants to take that away from him. Not cool.
