‘South Park’ Inspired Middle School Students To Hold A ‘Kick A Ginger Day’

As Eric Cartman of South Park once thoroughly explained, kids with red hair, light skin, and freckles are gingers, and they’re to be feared. Much more than daywalkers. They have an incurable disease, Gingervitis, and are to be avoided, or else you’ll be really creeped out and sick to your stomach, or something.

This is, of course, a slight exaggeration — stay away from As Told by Ginger reruns on Nickelodeon, though — but students at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School in Massachusetts took that particular episode of the long-running series a little too seriously when they held their own Kick a Ginger Day. A statement released by school officials said that a group of seventh graders, choosing “to imitate an episode of South Park,” targeted red heads, who were kicked “in corridors and stairwells and during transition times.”

When they became aware of the incident around 11:30 a.m. Friday, a public announcement was made ordering the behavior to stop and informing students that this could be considered assault and that any students who were involved would be subject to disciplinary action. A message was also sent out to parents at the end of the day explaining what happened.

[School officials] been in contact with Melrose Police, and it is possible that charges may be brought if any students are found to have engaged in an assault. (Via)
