Billy West Records Donald Trump’s Ramblings As Zapp From ‘Futurama’

Even by voice actor standards, where switching between 15 characters on a single show isn’t out of the ordinary, Billy West is prodigious. He was there when you were a child (Doug Funnie on Doug), he was there when you were a slightly older child (Bugs Bunny in Space Jam), he was there when you walked out of Garfield: The Movie (“Dog”), and he’s been there for the last 17 years as the voice of Philip J. Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, and about a million other humans and aliens on Matt Groening’s Futurama. One character he wasn’t originally supposed to voice was Nimbus captain Zapp Brannigan, but when Phil Hartman tragically passed away, West got the gig.

Zapp was modeled after “half Captain Kirk, half actual William Shatner,” according to co-creator David X. Cohen, but there’s another public figure the self-important dunce reminded West of: Donald Trump. He spent yesterday recording some of Trump’s most inane ramblings as Zapp, and now I’m convinced our maybe-next-president has diagnosed himself with “sexlexia.”

There’s plenty of Trump’s mouth-garbage to work with, but West, who promised more recordings, could also Trump up certain Futurama quotes. I’ll start: “Trump’s Law is like Trump’s love; disappointing and sweaty!”
