The Battle of the Bastards wasn’t the only massacre in Game of Thrones season six — more than a dozen recurring (important) characters were killed over the 10 episodes, including Hold the Door and Al Swearengen. It would be very un-Thrones like to have a trimmed cast, so showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are hard at work finding familiar faces — like Harry Potter‘s Jim Broadbent — for us to fall in love with, before they’re brutally murdered.
Maybe Angela Lansbury was smart to not get involved, after all.
The latest casting rumor comes from Instagram, naturally, where I See Stars singer Devin Oliver cryptically wrote, “I may or may not have made an appearance in Game of Thrones season 7.” Now, Game of Thrones casting a musician isn’t anything new — members of Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon have all appeared on the show — but what makes Oliver’s potential involvement notable is his resemblance to a certain family.

With his shocking blonde hair, Oliver sure looks like a Targaryen, specifically Rhaegar, Daenerys’ deceased older brother and Jon Snow’s father who kickstarted the events of the series by abducting Ned Stark’s sister Lyanna (unless she went with him willingly, but that’s a theory for another day).
That’s what fans think, at least.
Woah. I can totally see him as Rhaegar, he’s quite good looking and he’s a singer, so maybe we’ll hear Rhaegar sing?

He is perfectly what I imagine for Rhaegar’s looks! And if he sings, looks like a perfect casting. Let’s hope this is true or at least someone even better than this.
As a girl, I can say right here right now: this guy is so hot. If he is Rhaegar, Lyanna was damm happy to run away with him. If he is Rhaegar, that look Littlefinger gave Sansa when she repeated that whole “Rhaegar abducted and raped Lyanna” thing is spot on! Imagine season 7 opening with a flashback of this guy singing? No need for a second flashback where Lyanna tells Ned she was pretty in love with Rhaegar…
Remember what Barristan Selmy — who called Rhaegar “the last dragon,” much to the Mother of Dragons’ disapproval — told Dany in season five: “Rhaegar never liked killing. He loved singing.” It’s certainly possible that season seven will feature a flashback to Rhaegar and Lyanna, the R and L in R + L = J, unless Oliver (who metalcore-screams more than he sings) is screwing with us, and he’s just playing Inebriated Brothel Patron #6.
It’s hard to tell with this show sometimes.
