Ever since David Letterman announced his upcoming retirement on Thursday, television and the web have both been flooded with two kinds of reactions: speculation about who will take his place (John Oliver? Stephen Colbert?) and touching tributes (Seth Meyers, Keith Olbermann, and Jimmy Fallon quickly ripped off three of our favorites).

This couch gag from The Simpsons — in which the family tramples their way onto Dave’s set — falls under the latter category. The hat tip is also loaded with history: it’s the longest-running scripted show in television history paying tribute to the longest-running late night talk show host.
