The folks over at The Tonight Show managed to put together this fine holiday treat for Star Wars fans and disco fans alike. Or at least it’s meant to be a treat. For some, it might be hell all wrapped up in one finely edited video. With Brian Williams cast off in exile over on MSNBC, Fallon hasn’t had an excuse to bust out his editors to recreate classic tunes via clips.
With Star Wars: The Force Awakens tearing up the box office, the entire saga came into play to turn The Bee Gees’ “Staying Alive” into a Star Wars tune. And it works well, even if the ending makes you think that the characters are being tortured to death by the music. In fact, there’s plenty of characters that didn’t abide by the title of the song. Mace Windu in particular went out like a punk.
I’m curious what the process was when picking a song for this edit. The Bee Gees couldn’t have been the first choice.
