Lori was no one’s favorite character on The Walking Dead (Glenn agrees), but she may have protected one of the show’s most popular survivors.
Or, more accurately, Sarah Wayne Callies (who’s as awesome as Lori is annoying) convinced the producers to not kill off Carol. In anticipation of the season six premiere, Entertainment Weekly spoke to Melissa McBride and Andrew Lincoln, who dropped a bombshell on us and his co-star. Remember the episode where Lori and T-Dog die? Well, originally, it was going to be Lori and Carol.
Until Callies stepped in.
LINCOLN: It was the episode when Lori and T-Dog die. But for a few weeks it was going to be Carol and Lori. And Sarah, in her good grace and class, stepped in and said, “That’s a terrible mistake.” And so she knew that she was going, but she fought for you to stay.
McBRIDE: I did not know that. I’m going to faint.
LINCOLN: Yeah.
McBRIDE: Get her on the phone!
LINCOLN: Yeah, there you go.
It’s all thanks to the otherwise-awful Lori that Carol went from an outcast to an unkillable badass, with a ridiculously high body count. This is great news.
For everyone except T-Dog, I guess.
