Dave Grohl has been in one band or another since 1984, when he joined the short-lived Freak Baby (which, depending on the lineup, was also known as Dain Bramage and Mission Impossible). From there, he moved onto Scream and two groups you might have heard of, Nirvana and Foo Fighters, not to mention Tenacious D, Queens of the Stone Age, and Them Crooked Vultures. With the exception of the first Foo Fighters record, which he played every instrument on, Grohl has never been a solo artist. That may change soon.
Page Six spoke to someone in Camp Foo Fighters (the band is currently on a “break”) who said, “The band is billing it as a ‘break,’ but it’s totally Dave going solo, and [drummer] Taylor [Hawkins] is pissed about it.” You should take everything Page Six reports on with a grain of salt, and a representative called the breakup rumors “utterly ridiculous,” and yet:

2015 was a busy year for Foo Fighters — they released the Saint Cecilia EP, Grohl broke his leg, they traveled to Italy — so it’s understandable why the band would go on a mini-hiatus. In a letter accompanying the release of Saint Cecilia, Grohl wrote “we could use a nice wander through the woods right about now… I can’t help but wonder when we will see each other again. Who knows? But, with everything Foo Fighter-related, it will only be when it feels right. And that’s a feeling that’s easy to feel.” On the bright side, if they are announcing their breakup, Grohl can play over the band’s In Memoriam.
