Seeing a hockey player take a puck to the face is always tough to watch, but it becomes exponentially tougher to watch when it’s followed by a large amount of blood loss on the ice.
New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck got some involuntary dental service on Sunday night when a Florida Panthers player shoveled a puck straight into his mouth during the first period of Game 6 in Brooklyn. The puck must have caught Clutterbuck in the grill pretty flush, as he immediately started leaking blood as he slid across the ice.
For as much blood as he was losing, Clutterbuck managed to maintain his calm and just casually play it cool until he was assisted by a trainer. The Isles veteran has a reputation of being one of the league’s tougher players, so I guess it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that he wasn’t going bonkers over a few lost teeth.
Fortunately, the team’s trainer got to Clutterbuck pretty quickly and was able to stop the suppress the bleeding as he helped lead him to the locker room for repairs.
I’d have to imagine even Shawn Thornton, who has been Clutterbuck’s biggest antagonizer in this series, had to respect the toughness shown there.
