Emma Watson wore one of the more controversial dresses to Monday night’s Met Gala. Uproxx’s own Kimberly Ricci described her skirt-over-pants look like this:
Calvin Klein often favors simple, tailored looks that are also body-conscious in nature. However, these pants don’t pair well with an awkward bustier and train. Overall, this outfit feels out of place.
But Miss Emma herself is pleased with the gown, not least because the material is environmentally friendly. As she writes in the Facebook post embedded above, she collaborated with Calvin Klein and a company called Eco Age on this garment. The gown itself is made from recycled plastic bottles:
The body of the gown is crafted from three different fabrics, all woven from yarns made from recycled plastic bottles (!). Plastic is one of the biggest pollutants on the planet. Being able to repurpose this waste and incorporate it into my gown for the #MetGala proves the power that creativity, technology and fashion can have by working together.
Watson writes that the zippers are recycled as well, and the bustier is made up of organic cotton, as is the silk lining. Though the end design is not to everybody’s liking, Watson’s gown fits the “Manus x Machina” theme nicely, with its emphasis on innovation. Plus, while the other stars in attendance will probably never wear their dresses again, Watson plans on repurposing the gown, especially the pants.
