Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the He-Man character that we grew up with in the ‘80s – the hero who was overly muscular to the point that Prince Adam was fooling no one – was living in a suburban community and trying to reconnect with his son from a failed marriage? Probably not, but the concept is weird, wonderful, and coming to us on Fox this fall, all thanks to the brilliant minds of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the executive producers of Son of Zorn.
While people have been freaking out about the TV adaptations of Lethal Weapon and The Exorcist, or celebrating the reboot of 24 and return of Prison Break, this gem of a trailer flew under the radar instead of being a straight up swoop-and-kill mission. Jason Sudeikis stars as Zorn, an animated barbarian who is trying to make good with his son (Johnny Pemberton), rekindle the troll-orgy flames with his ex-wife (Cheryl Hines), intimidate her new fiancé Craig (Tim Meadows), and get used to his new office gig and female boss, played by the wonderful Artemis Pebdani.
In case the premise of the series seems way too insane, don’t worry – Miller agrees, recently telling Entertainment Weekly:
“He tries to be a family man, but he is a barbarian warrior from another land who doesn’t quite fit in,” executive producer Chris Miller tells EW. “The thing I like about this show is that while the premise is really outrageous and ridiculous, the tone of the show is finding the practical, real, understated minutia of daily life. And the parts of the show that feel the most interesting to me are the [ones that] play it relatively grounded for such a ridiculous concept.”
Adds Lord:
“I think we are addicted to the feeling of getting away with something,” says Lord (who is executive-producing another upcoming Fox series with Miller, the time-traveling comedy Making History). “And when I see this show on the air, I’m going to think, ‘Why didn’t anyone stop us? This is crazy!’”
Lord and Miller are also executive-producing the Fox series Making History, which stars Adam Pally and Leighton Meester as time travelers who keep screwing everything up. In short: this is a truly wonderful time at Fox.
