The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are pretty popular today — enough to carry multiple big-budget Hollywood blockbusters — but they were up in the stratosphere back in the early ’90s. You could make basically anything happen if you attached the Turtles name to it back then, including a touring rock musical entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coming Out of Their Shells. Yes, we’re doing this.
Thought the Turtle costumes from the old movies are a bit cheesy today? Wait until you see the Out of Their Shells Turtles in their bedazzled denim vests. Watch as those Turtle Boys lipsync poorly to raps about pizza and Beach Boys homages about tubing! Chill as Shredder zings kids in the audience and straight up makes jokes about boning their moms! If we’re being honest, this show looks kind of amazing.
But the Honest Trailer folks aren’t done yet! They also bring in YouTuber The Nostalgia Critic to trash other ’90s Turtles ephemera, like the musical Christmas special where Leonardo sings about pepperoni in a Jamaican accent. And that’s just the beginning. The Turtles well is deep and dark and filled with many horrors. If you watch just one Honest Trailer, this is the one — click that play button.
