There typically reaches a turning point where a movie becomes “so underrated” that it’s actually overrated, but not Idiocracy. No one saw it in theaters (almost literally — box office total: $495,303), it became a massive cult hit on DVD, and it’s still excellent, if terrifying. Idiocracy is upon us, with massive portion sizes, Ow! My Balls!-style game shows, and the English language devolving into a “hybrid of hillbilly, valley girl, inner city slang, and various grunts,” and emojis. Things probably won’t get any better if Donald Trump is elected president, so it’s no wonder Idiocracy writer Etan Cohen, who once tweeted, “I never expected #idiocracy to become a documentary,” is working on a series of anti-Trump ads with Mike Judge and President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho himself, Terry Crews.
After Cohen’s tweet went viral, he called Judge and they brainstormed the ads, which they’ll shoot “after Fox clears the rights with Crews,” according to BuzzFeed. It was surprisingly hard to come up with material because “if you’re making Idiocracy 2,” Cohen said, “and you’re trying to write whoever’s the heir to Camacho, if you put in Trump, it would be too silly to be in a movie.”
“The most dangerous contrast to Trump is that Camacho actually realizes he needs advice from other people, and knows that he’s not the smartest guy in the room,” Cohen continued, noting that he would “definitely” vote for Camacho over Trump. “Also, not a racist.”
Trump could totally beat Crews in an arm-wrestling match, though.
He’s already done it once, he swears.
