It appears the most peculiar mystery The Conjuring 2 has brought to the table is one that was unintentional. (Well, depending on your level of cynicism.)
The Times of India reports that a 65-year-old man at a Tiruvannamalai theater died of a heart attack during a screening of the popular horror film. Police say that the moviegoer complained of chest pains and fainted at the climax of the motion picture. Rushed to hospital, the man would ultimately be pronounced dead. Things took an even more unusual turn after that.
The man’s body was sent to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for the postmortem, but the corpse never arrived at its destination. Both the cadaver and the person entrusted with transporting it have disappeared. Police are said to be on the lookout for the body and body driver with no reports of either being retrieved as of yet.
At the risk of sounding crass, it’s not unreasonable to be a bit skeptical about this claim. It sounds like an urban legend, details are remarkably general and films dealing with the supernatural are no stranger to tall tales attached to it. Factor in an era where the marketing of films gets more and more elaborate and YouTube has changed the rules on pranks and there’s loads of room for reasonable doubt. On the other hand, evil spirits or a driver with a remarkably faulty GPS could be to blame. Or maybe evil spirits inside a GPS.
